This is the week eight preview of college football, ranking teams one through eight and a description of each game. After being No. 1 all season, the Florida Gators moved down in the rankings after their win this past weekend and Alabama now holds the top spot. The prime-time game this weekend inside the top-5 is: Oregon State @ USC.
- Alabama 7-0:
The Crimson Tide beat South Carolina pretty easily this past weekend. I thought South Carolina would put up more of a fight, but they only managed two field goals in the loss. To this point, Alabama has played a tougher schedule than Florida and has succeeded; not only have they succeeded, but they have succeeded by a larger margin in each victory than Florida. Saturday, Alabama plays host to Tennessee. Coming into this game Tennessee is unranked; look for them to stay that way leaving. There will be no upset here, as Alabama rolls over the Volunteers behind the legs of Mark Ingram, who is 95 yards shy of 1,000 for the season.
- Florida 6-0:
Florida won by a field goal last week at home against Arkansas. This game says two things: when the game is on the line, Tim Tebow is going to get the job done and Florida has proven it can play in close games. The Nation’s top defense of the Gators did not show up for this past game, which leaves some questions. Is Arkansas really that good or did the defense play that badly? The Gators travel to play an unranked Mississippi State team this weekend. Assuming that Florida comes out with a lot of motivation because of the recent drop in the polls, I see the Gators winning in a handedly fashion.
- Texas 6-0:
Texas had a sloppy showing against Oklahoma last weekend with numerous turnovers. They travel to Missouri to take on the Tigers. Coming into this game, Mizzou has lost two straight and look to be falling apart. Mind you both games have been against ranked opponents. I still see Texas and Quarterback Colt McCoy running the tables this week, sending Missouri to their third straight loss. Texas wins by at least a touchdown.
- USC 5-1:
USC’s game against Notre Dame this past weekend was unbelievable; a goal line stand with one second remaining to win the game. Wow! This week USC plays host to Oregon State. I see this game being close, even with a 4-2 record; Oregon State is a very good football team. It seems every year when these teams meet, records do not matter; Oregon State has won the past two meetings. Now USC showed what it is capable of as did Quarterback Matt Barkley. He has shown that he can handle the pressure. Look for this game to be close, but USC prevails when it is said and done.
- Cincinnati 6-0:
Cincinnati impressed me. After they beat No. 21 South Florida last week without their starting Quarterback and Heisman trophy candidate, Tony Pike. Tony was injured in the second quarter of the game and never returned. The backup QB Zach Collaros showed that he is capable of running the football, but questions still remain if he can throw the football. This coming week will be hard to tell because the Bearcats host a struggling Louisville team. But in the mean time Cincinnati is 6-0 and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Bearcats roll over the Cardinals.
