Corey’s Picks of the week

by Corey Yund

This weekend is week nine in college football with the top three teams staying neutral and the other six moving up or down. Here is a look at the top-10 and a description of each game. The prime-time games this weekend are: No. 16 Utah @ No. 4 TCU and No. 11 Iowa @ No. 10 Ohio State.

1. Florida (39)9-0:
Florida is coming off another blowout win against Vanderbilt. This week they travel to South Carolina to play Steve Spurrier’s Gamecock’s. South Carolina started off the season strong, but has begun to fall as the season progresses. Look for Florida to dominate this game on all ends of the field. Tim Tebow will take over this game as he does every game. Florida stays undefeated as South Carolina’s woes continue.

2. Texas (10)9-0:
Texas’ high powered offense put on a showcase this past weekend as they blew out Central Florida. The Longhorns travel to play last place Baylor this weekend so look for another blow out to be marked on the schedule. Heisman candidate Colt McCoy will guide the Longhorns to victory.

3. Alabama (11)9-0:
Alabama is coming off a tough win against the LSU Tigers last week. This week they go on the road to battle Mississippi State. Look for the attack of the Crimson Tide to rush all over the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. Alabama goes six deep at running back and have the best running back in the nation in Mark Ingram. I see Alabama winning big.

4. TCU 9-0:
Texas Christian continues to roll over their opponents as they did this past weekend against San Diego State. The toughest game on their schedule comes this weekend as they play host to No. 16 Utah. Two things could happen: TCU either winning in a blow out or a close game; Utah will not win this game. I think Utah is overrated; they have not played a ranked opponent yet.

5. Cincinnati 9-0:
Cincinnati is finding a way to squeak out every win, as they did by beating UCONN. The tougher part of the Bearcats’ schedule is coming up, so we will see if the Bearcats are as good as they have been playing. This weekend they host No. 25 West Virginia. And two weeks from now they play Pittsburgh, which could determine the Big East championship. I still see Cincinnati beating out West Virginia behind the arm and legs of QB Zach Callaros.

6. Boise State 9-0:
Boise State better put it into gear or they may experience an upset. Almost losing to Louisiana Tech is unacceptable. If Boise does not play to their potential, then they could be in danger of their first WAC conference loss ever. Idaho is a mediocre team and is on a hunt to upset Boise State, but it is a long shot and I don’t see it happening. Kellen Moore is too good of a QB to let this happen to his team. Boise State gets its priorities straight and takes down Idaho at home.

7. Georgia Tech 9-1:
Georgia Tech is for real. They should finish with only one loss on the season. This weekend they travel to Duke. The Blue Devils of Duke are new and improved but are no match for Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets running game will take over this game and never look back. Georgia Tech wins handily.

8. Pittsburgh 8-1:
Pittsburgh’s last three games are against teams with a combined record of 22-5. This week they take on a Notre Dame team that is coming off a loss to Navy. I could see Notre Dame pulling the upset here. Pittsburgh is a good team, but they have not played a ranked team yet, although they did beat Navy unlike Notre Dame. Jimmy Clausen has a big day as the Irish come out victorious.

9. LSU 7-2:
LSU is coming off a close loss to Alabama. They are playing host to Louisiana Tech, who is coming off a near upset of No. 6 Boise State. LSU lost their top running back for the season due to injury, so this is an advantage in favor of Louisiana Tech. Look for second string running back Russell Shepard to fill in nicely and QB Jordan Jefferson to continue to do the things he has been doing, which is throwing touchdowns. LSU wins big.
