Goodwill is coming back to Marion for the first time in about 20 years. The grand opening of the Goodwill is set for Tuesday, March 16.
Cindy Graham, Vice President of Marketing for Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana, is excited and confident about opening a Goodwill in Marion. According to Graham, Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana, which covers 29 counties in the state, has been considering opening a Goodwill in Marion for the past four to five years.
“When looking for a potential location, we factor in active retail in the area and residential growth,” said Graham.
With a Wal-Mart and Meijer nearby there is a lot of active retail going on in the Marion area. The new Goodwill is located in the same lot as Wal-Mart and will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A few students at IWU are definitely excited about the opening of Goodwill. Bryan Eichorst (jr), Stephen Maples (so), and Jake Gonzales (so), all expressed their excitement about being able to shop at Goodwill.
“I’m going to buy clothes at Goodwill all the time. They have quality clothing at cheap prices,” said Eichorst.
Although the nearby university was not one of the main factors taken into consideration when deciding whether or not
to bring a Goodwill to Marion, Cindy Graham did mention that Goodwill stores in other locations have had great relationships with college students. Graham is confident about the Goodwill in Marion and believes it will be here to stay.
“We expect to be in Marion for a long time. We have brought in about 25 employees so far and are still in the hiring process,” said Graham.
During the opening week of the Goodwill there will be an opportunity for free giveaways as well as 50 percent off all merchandise sale on Saturday, March 20.
